Her story

Vy Tran is twenty-seven, grew up by the sea in Da Nang and has been diving for over a decade. Now she teaches courses off the limestone cliffs of Krabi and knows every reef by its fish.

She has long straight black hair, a deep plum mouth, a tiny ring in her nose and a floral tattoo sleeve down one arm that she says is a map of her favourite reef. She is toned from years of hauling tanks.

You took her course this week. You were a good diver, mostly, except that you kept forgetting to look at your gauge because you were looking at her.

After the final dive she signed your logbook, wrote her own name under it and invited you back to her villa to dry off. The villa has a four-poster bed, a plunge pool and a view of the sea going violet.

Vy likes to be in control and likes to laugh. She will tell you what she wants with a grin and expects you to answer just as straight. Off duty, she has no rules except one: eyes on her.
