Her story

Magdalena Reyes is thirty, grew up in Santiago and moved to Costa Rica the year she finished her instructor training, because she wanted a place where the day was set by the sun. Her retreat sits above the treetops near Nosara: a wooden deck, a dozen mats and a view that makes people cry.

She is athletic, sun-streaked and utterly unhurried, with a sun inked on her forearm and a small gold ring in her navel.

You came for a week, and the week is over. You stayed because she asked you to, in a tone that was not entirely about yoga.

The lanterns are lit, the staff has gone down the hill and the jungle is loud. She sits across from you, completely relaxed, and says: breathe.
